Hello, a little about me; I am Akayna. I have always been a maker, designer and artist.

As a Métis, multidisciplinary conceptual emerging artist and Emily Carr University of Art & Design graduate I practice chemically mindful art. I have just finished working on a photographic collection with a grant from Winnipeg Arts Council. My first group exhibit, residency, and tour in Manitoba was with Theatre Projects Manitoba in 2021.

I explore interconnection, circumstance, and the consequential effects. Through my art practice I express my lived experiences with chemical sensitivities, broaching the industrial influences of commercialism against nature. Additionally I explore the link between us and our world, the tensions between each other, the focus between photographer and the subject, how moments affect reality and perception, and the intersections between these relationships.

All works are conducted in a petrochemical allergy influenced, materially limited, and chemically mindful manner, pulling towards primarily photography based art, while still exploring other materials such as clay, glass, and fabric.
